Global Workplace Transformation for a Global Professional Services Firm

Led the business capability strategy behind a multi-year, global "Workplace of the Future" transformation, redesigning processes across departmental silos and identifying new service-oriented capabilities.


Client Context

A global professional services firm launched a multi-year, worldwide initiative to modernize how its workforce operated — spanning process, technology, and organizational structure across many departments and geographies at once.

The Challenge

Transformation at this scale fails when it's tackled department-by-department: silos redesign their own processes in isolation, new capabilities get built that duplicate what already exists elsewhere, and the organization ends up with a faster version of the same fragmentation. The firm needed a business-capability-led approach that could span departmental boundaries rather than reinforce them.

Approach

As lead systems analyst and solution architect, I directed the "Workplace of the Future" initiative from a business capabilities perspective — re-designing processes across departmental silos rather than within them, running structured digitization efforts, and conducting service discovery to identify where new, shared capabilities could replace duplicated departmental ones under a service-oriented architecture (SOA) model. The work combined business capability modeling, value stream modeling, and target operating model design to give departmental leaders a common language and a shared map of where their processes actually overlapped. The effort included identifying and modeling service modules to integrate with various SoRs across the organization via an API-based integration platform.

Outcomes

The initiative gave the firm a cross-departmental view of its own operations for the first time — surfacing capability duplication and service opportunities that department-level planning had missed, and establishing a shared capability model that subsequent transformation phases could build on rather than re-discovering the same ground. Along with it, this effort produced services-based capability models that could be digitized and scaled for use across the organization via an API-based integration layer to communicate with relevant SoRs and evolving front-end channels.
